The Hispaniola Giant (Phormictopus cancerides) from Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a large Caribbean birdeater with a purple-bronze sheen. Adults reach about 7–8" in leg span.
Temperament: Defensive and a heavy eater. It may kick urticating hairs or stand its ground. Better suited to keepers with some experience.
Care: Moderately moist substrate, a hide, a water dish and plenty of floor space. Normal room temperatures are fine.
Growth rate: Fast.
